June 2, 2022 DO THE RIGHT THING
1 Peter 3:13 “And who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good?”
Psalm 21:3 “To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”
Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Colossians 3:20 “So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
It may sound a bit over-simplified, but doing the right thing is the right thing to do! We tend to complicate life and confuse the issues. I believe that God has placed within us a basic knowledge of what is right and what is wrong. The problem comes when we begin to focus on ourselves; if our goal is to please ourselves, we will compromise on what is right and what is pleasing to the Lord. Because we belong to the Lord and because we have been made righteous in Him, we are to live righteously in this life. Living righteously is not just a belief, but is active; it’s about expressing the righteousness of God through our actions. Again, selfish motives derail righteous living. Doing the right thing has many benefits; a clear conscious, which is an awesome blessing; better sleep at night; no regrets; and a sense of peace. I also personally believe that there are emotional and physical benefits to doing the right thing. It is freeing to live life with the attitude of how we can bless others and what deeds can we do that are pleasing to the Lord. In fact, that is how God designed us to live-and He knows what fills our deepest longings. The only way we can live life to the fullest measure possible is to live according to His design-according to our true identity as sons and daughters of God. Being motivated to ‘do the right thing’ does not negate the need for prayer; there are important decisions to make in life and it is wise to seek God’s direction, and we need to have the guidance of the Holy Spirit as to what good works we are called to do. Our hearts desire should be that of doing the right thing, with the motivation of doing the things that are pleasing to Him and to be a blessing to others. In reality, in God, life is not complicated. To get a glimpse of life as God designed, look at the life of Adam and Eve before the fall.
Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Romans 6:13 “And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments as righteousness to God.”
