Matthew 1:21-23 “And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins. Now all this took place that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel.’ which translates means, ‘God with us.’”
The prophet Isaiah prophesied the birth of Jesus long before Jesus was born. It was God’s plan from the beginning to send a Savior that would save His people from their sins. Because of the sin of Adam and Eve, we were all born with a sinful nature bent on doing things our way. To prove the point, just notice how a young child responds when they don’t get their way! Some live a ‘good’ life, never committing what one might call a horrible sin of some sort; some might say that their worst sin was eating that piece of candy Mom told them not to eat. But the point remains; we have all sinned against God. God is Holy and He can have nothing to do with sin; and that is why man needed the forgiveness of God. To be forgiven required a sacrifice; and Jesus, who was without sin, was that perfect sacrifice. Because Jesus was born, and later crucified on a cruel cross, sinners received the forgiveness they desperately needed and full access to God was made available. God did not save us from a distance; God, through His Son Jesus, came to us! His name shall be called Immanuel, God with us! He sent Jesus as the sacrifice BECAUSE HE LOVED US THAT MUCH.
1 John 4:9-11 “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
