February 3, 2021 THE SEARCH
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.”
If we ask ourselves what is that we are searching for, or our pursuit in life, we may be surprised to find that we have no quick answer to the question. Man searches for that which he thinks will satisfy-and that is the natural thing to do. Man’s search is like seeing a mirage; a mirage is “something that appears real or possible but is not in fact so.” We may be convinced that if we had more money, the house we want, a nicer vehicle, or lived in another city, perhaps had another spouse, or had perfect kids, or a great reputation in the community, better health, better looks….or whatever, we would be happy and fill satisfied. The sad thing is that we can spend the great majority of our time and energy pursuing things that do not live up to their promise. Practically every commercial and every bill board we see is promising us that if we buy their service or product, a need will be fulfilled. The good news is that we can stop the search! God knows what we long for, and He has made provision for that longing to be filled. The other good news is that His provision is not complicated and it does not require the ‘sweat of the brow’ on our part. The death of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus was so much more than our ticket to heaven; it meant not only forgiveness of our sins, it also meant our being restored to our Father; being made whole; being made new; being joined to Him; and being set free from the ways of the world. When we come to know and experience the reality of being joined to Him, we then have a sense of being whole and we cease the endless search for things that do not satisfy our deepest longings. There is one thing we should seek, and that is seeking Him, to know Him more fully. Seeking Him is far different from seeking other things; we can enjoy completeness and wholeness at the present, but at the same time, be seeking more of Him. He is so great and awesome that we can spend a life time of discovering more of Him. As we seek Him, He will add to us everything we need and fulfill our deepest desires.
Psalm 107:9 “For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and He has filled the hungry soul with that which is good.”
Matthew 11:28-29 “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
