BE  TRANSFORMED

August 29, 2017                         BE  TRANSFORMED
Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
At any given moment, our thoughts originate either from a mind that is renewed, or mind that has not been renewed. Everyone understands the power of the mind and how important it is to have right thinking. There is more than ample information and motivation on being ‘positive’ in our thinking. It is true that one who does not even know God will enjoy a better life if he or she has a positive mind-set. However, for the believer, tt is indeed a great miracle that God has chosen to allow us the opportunity to have our mind, not improved, but totally transformed by the work of the Holy Spirit in order that we may actually think like God thinks! (1 Corinthians 2:16) Most believers know that we are to ‘renew’ our minds, but perhaps the ‘how to’ is not understood. Personally, I have understood that renewing my mind meant getting rid of wrong thoughts when they come, and substituting the thoughts God would have me think. There is truth in that understanding, however, I am realizing that there is more to grasp when it comes to being transformed in our thinking. Recently I have been on rather long trips alone, and while driving, I put to use a blue tooth speaker and was blessed with hours of worship and praise music. As I saturated my mind and my spirit with this worship and praise music for many miles, I could sense a transformation taking place in my mind. Simply put, I felt that I began to see life as God sees it-and I was blessed. The point is, that part of the process of renewing of our minds is taking extended times when we turn our worship and praise to Him and as we do, we will experience the renewing of our mind.  God welcomes and enjoys our talking to Him and worshiping Him, and He enjoys revealing Himself to us. The renewing of our mind does not happen automatically; we are instructed to renew our minds, but we are not left alone in the pro, the Holy Spirit has been given to make it possible. As said above, it is a fantastic miracle that a mere human being who has put their faith and hope in Jesus Christ, can think like God thinks! The world in which you and I live desperately needs to have contact with those who think like God-and that’s you and I. Let us remember that our mind is not renewed on its own; the renewal process involves the reading and meditating on scripture, worshiping and giving praise to God, and being quick to obey the commands of God. Starting now, let us live with a renewed mind-the Holy Spirit will make it possible.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, and if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise-think on these things.”

A  MOTTO  FOR  LIFE

August 26, 29017                       A  MOTTO  FOR  LIFE
Psalm 37:3 “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Most people would confess that life is more complicated than it should be, giving rise to a desire to move toward simplicity. This desire for simplicity is evidenced by the current ‘minimalist’ movement that promotes a simple life style. The culture as a whole has believed the lie that life consist in the abundance of things, which sets the stage for disappointment and unfulfillment. A second lie that has duped many in our culture is the humanistic belief that man is in charge of his own destiny and that he is entitled to do whatever it takes to gratify self. These two lies, when believed, work in conjunction with each other and their end result is a complicated life and a life lacking true meaning and purpose. In Psalm 37:3, we find the refreshing and simple truth that is from God, a truth that gives a clear focus in life. First, it is essential that if we are to live out this verse, we must “trust in the Lord.” God is faithful, all knowing, and He loves us, and He is more than trustworthy. When we place our trust in the Lord and our knowledge of Him deepens, we find it to be our desire to be like Him, and because He is good, we will find ourselves being about good works.  To ‘dwell’ in the land implies that we must go about the day-to-day activities of life, including working, keeping home, schooling, etc., but in being about the routines, we are to be ‘cultivating faithfulness.’ Faith is a corner stone in the kingdom of God, and because we are now a part of His kingdom, faithfulness on our part is to be a corner stone of our earthly life. Our relationship with God is based on faith and the faithfulness of God; by faith we believe the word of God, and by faith in God, “we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28.) Faithfulness is to be the force that motivates all we do. Both in the major and the minor aspects of our life, we are to exercise faithfulness. When we face difficulties in life, by faith we hold to the truths of God and remain faithful; when we give our word-we keep it; when we face temptation, we resist the enemy who is tempting us and turn from the temptation. The point is, that because we belong to Him, we are to have a desire to live in such a way that the life we live, resembles the life Jesus lived. Notice that we are to ‘cultivate’ faithfulness. Our faith is not full-grown at this point, and there will likely be times when our faith falters, but we must be actively cultivating our faith-so that it is healthy and that it grows. Even when we miss the mark, even when we fail, we are exercising faith when we confess to God, and other affected ones, our fault or failure. So, let us see the routines of the day as opportunities to express faithfulness to God and as opportunities to cultivate our most precious faith.
Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

LASTING  CHANGE

August 23, 2017                                                            LASTING  CHANGE
2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as form the Lord, the Spirit.”
We all have at times decided to change something about our life, but found that all too often, the change is not permanent. The amazing truth of this verse is that the change, or the transformation, that this verse is referring to is a lasting change and it happens without our conscience effort! The transformation we see in this verse is not just an improvement, but a total transformation at the core of our being. The necessary ingredient to the transformation process is that we behold the glory of the Lord. To ‘behold the glory of the Lord’ starts with a desire in our heart to know Him, and if that is our desire, we will find ourselves becoming familiar with His word and meditating on the wonder and majesty of who He is. There is a basic hunger or need in the heart of man, and what we see as we behold the Lord is what satisfies the longings of the heart. It is amazing, but because we were created by God, there is something in us, part of our design, that desires to be like Him. After all, God is our Father, and it’s only natural to want to be like Him. Apart from the redemptive work of the Lord, man is in darkness and could never come to know God and be like Him. But, because we have been redeemed by the mercy and grace of God, we are now able to behold Him, and as we behold Him, we are transformed into His image! Genesis 1:26 tells us that we were made in the image of God. (Because of sin, that image was marred.) Can we grasp the truth that God wants us to be like Him? The wonderful news for us is that our being transformed into His image is not dependent on our own effort, but it happens as we look at Him. No longer let us listen to the lies of the enemy-that we are sinners, that we are not worthy, that we are failures, that we disappoint God, and etc.  Replace the lies with the truth-that we have been redeemed, that we are sons and daughters of God, that we were created in His image, and that we have been made new, that we can now enjoy God! Sure, we are not yet made perfect, but the transformation process is well underway! Let us keep beholding the glory of the Lord, knowing that as we do, we are being transformed. It is not our destiny to live as mere human beings; it is our destiny to live as children of God who are becoming more and more like Him!
Colossians 1:21-22: “And although you were formally alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.”

LISTEN  UP

August 19, 2017                           LISTEN  UP
Proverbs 1:33 “He who listens to Me shall live securely, and shall be at ease from the dread of evil.”
Throughout the world, multitudes live with fear as a constant companion. Those who promoted a humanistic philosophy and claimed that we were in the days of ‘enlightenment,’ promised that the world would get better, wars would cease-all because man was ‘good’-and how wrong they were. In all of history, man has resisted and rejected the rule of God and has lived according to his own way. Because man has gone his own way, the world has not gotten better, but on the contrary, things continue to degenerate into greater darkness. However, God has made an awesome promise to those who know Him and listen to Him. Even though we are surrounded by darkness, we can live in the light of God by listening and learning from Him. God has made provision for His people, and when we receive of His provision, we live free of fear. Let us not miss the obvious, but easily over looked part of this verse-God speaks to us and we can hear Him! God speaks in many ways to the one who desires to hear Him. The obvious way that God speaks is through His written word, the Bible. The Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Spirit of God. The Bible is the ‘historical’ word of God, it is also the ‘current’ word of God in that for the one who desires to hear God, the Holy Spirit makes the written word alive and personal. God also speaks through other people, whether it be a preacher of the gospel, or a friend, or even someone we may not know personally. The necessary part of hearing God is the Holy Spirit in us revealing to us the heart of God to us individually. God may speak to us by giving us His thoughts; we may hear in Him our spirit; or we may hear Him speaking through the circumstances and happenings around us. God is all-knowing, all powerful, and everywhere present, and He loves us and He desires for us to know Him. Because He loves us, He always has our very best in mind. If we truly desire to hear God, then let us read His written word, let us expect to hear what He has to say to us in whatever way He chooses to speak, and most importantly, let us act on what He says.
Isaiah 30:21 “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or to the left.”
John 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
Luke 11:28 “But He said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

August 16, 2017                                                                        PURPOSE
Ephesians 2:8-10: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
A great blessing that accompanies our salvation is that of knowing that were created by God, and that we were created for a purpose. By knowing God, we are free from living a self-centered life, and are free to live according to the design of the one who created us. Our life takes on new meaning once we realize that we are His ‘workmanship;’ that God has uniquely created each one of us-our existence is no accident. In Psalm 139:1 we find this awesome truth: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Concerning our salvation, we have no room to boast, because even the faith that we have for salvation is a gift of God. In all religions other than Christianity, one has to earn his ‘salvation’ (There is no salvation outside of Christ). The blessing of the Christian faith is that God reaches down to man in his lost condition, and saves all who trust Jesus as Savior. We were not created just so that we can go to heaven when we die; we were created with a purpose that we are to fulfill here on earth. It’s really simple, there is no room to debate-we were created “for good works.” The key is that we are not trying just to be a ‘good person,’ but we are to be doing the good works that God has already prepared for us. The reason for the good works is that because God is good, and because He is our Father, we too are to be about good works. We must remember that we do not do good works in order to earn His approval, but because we have been born of God, and because we are His children, we do good works. Life constantly presents the opportunity for good works; there are good works that have our name on them! Again, we are not to do good works to impress others or to give us something to brag about, but because of whose we are, we do the good works. Also, because we are His workmanship, designed for the good works, we find satisfaction and a sense of completeness when we engage in the good works He has for us. Because God loves us, and because we love Him, the motivation behind the good works is love-and because we love, we want to bless. Acts 10:38 tells us that Jesus “went about doing good.” The good works we do include giving of time and resources, speaking a word of encouragement, praying for someone in time of need, be sensitive to the needs of others, being dependable and trust-worthy, being quick to forgive-and the list goes on.  Whether we give a glass of cold water to someone who is thirsty, or whether we pray for someone’s healing-God is pleased and we are blessed in the process. Let us remember that we are His workmanship, and only by living according to our design, will we find true fulfillment in life-that’s the way we are made!
Psalm 37:3 “Trust in the Lord and do good. Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.”

THAT  YOU  MAY  BE  ABLE  TO  STAND

8/12/2017

August 12, 2017                                  THAT  YOU  MAY  BE  ABLE  TO  STAND
Ephesians 6:10-12: “Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
A good starting point to be an overcomer in life is to realize that there is a war in progress. We like to think that everything is beautiful and that we are entitled to a life free of conflicts and problems. Another mistake we often make is falling into the trap of thinking that certain people are our problem-and sometime, those ‘certain people’ are those closest to us. Certainly, people can act in a wrong way, but the greater reality is that there is a power that is driving their errant behavior, and/or our wrong response. The over-riding truth and reality that we must continually be aware of is that are only two kingdoms-one of darkness, ruled by Satan, and one of light, ruled by God, and there is an ongoing conflict between these two kingdoms. The sobering reality is that human beings are the battle field where this warfare between the two kingdoms takes place.  It’s not that we personally that important to Satan, but his scheme is to ‘get back at God’ by attacking the ones that God loves so much-those that belong to Him. It is true that the one who is in the kingdom of darkness, who has not experienced the kingdom of light, is likely not that aware of this greater battle taking place because he is spiritually dead. One who has not been born again, who is spiritually dead, is void of the Spirit of God, and because of that, he lives according to his own dictates (so he thinks) and is oblivious to the battle taking place. It is also vitally important to know that Satan can do only what God allows him to do; the truth is that God is using Satan for His own purposes! In the great plan of God, God has chosen to demonstrate to the world and all of the spiritual powers that be, that His redeemed ones overcome the schemes of devil. It is the love of God that moved Him to send Jesus as our Savior, and it is by His love and His power that He has made us new creations who can live lives that please Him. Even though we are new creations, it is still possible for us to succumb to the schemes of the devil, and so we must still be engaged in the warfare.  We do not fight in our own strength, but we fight by being strong in the Lord and by walking according to the Spirit. The devils only chance of defeating us is to cause us to turn from the Lord. Let us be on guard against the schemes of our enemy, and let us put on the full armor of God and be strong in His might. The armor of God includes faith, righteousness, worship, prayer, and walking according to Holy Spirit who directs our steps. May we be the overcomers that we are in Him.
James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

FOR  HE  WHO  HAS  DIED

8/9/2017

August 8, 2017                              FOR  HE  WHO  HAS DIED
Romans 6:5-7: “For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.”
Most would be quick to say that they are not slaves to anyone or to anything, yet the reality is that many who profess to be a Christian, find themselves enslaved to their old self. It is paramount that we understand in our mind and in our spirit that our salvation not only assures us of eternal life in heaven when we die, it also enables us to live a super-natural life here on planet earth. Not only does our salvation enable us to live super-naturally, it is the plan of God that we do so. It’s a rather no-brainer statement, but the fact is that we cannot live the super-natural life in our own human strength! A major aspect of the super-natural life is that we can live without sinning! Some will disagree with that statement, but as you read the scriptures with an open mind and heart, you will see that that is exactly the plan of God for believers. The key to living without sin is to understand and apply the truth that we find in this verse for today. Just as Jesus died, we must “become united with Him in the likeness of His death” by agreeing that because we have been joined to Him in our salvation, our old self was also crucified with Him. And, just as Jesus was resurrected from the dead, we are also resurrected in newness-with a new nature! This is the great miracle of salvation-being made new. Referring to our new nature, 1 John 2:9 is an interesting verse in that it says: “No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him, and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” What died with Jesus was our old self-the self that was enslaved to sin. By sharing in the resurrection of Jesus, we now have a new nature, one that is not a salve to sin. We must recognize the untruth that says that even though we have been saved, we still have an old sin nature to contend with day-by-day. It certainly is possible for believers to sin, but only when they choose not to walk in their new identity-the new creation they are. It grieves the heart of God when the one He gave His Son for, turns from his new nature and allows the old sin nature to express itself. As believers, we can sin, but, it is no longer our nature to sin; if we have been joined to God, then it is our desire to do the things that please Him. Notice what is said in 1 John 2:1: “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father-Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” (Emphasis mine.)  No longer believe that it is your nature to sin; but believe the truth that you are no longer enslaved to sin and that it is now your nature to be pleasing to the Father-and it does please Him when we live in our new identity-identifying with the death and the resurrection of Jesus. Confess with your mouth your new identity, that you are a new creation, and that in all of your life, you will do the things that please your Father.
Romans 8:11: “And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.”
Galatians 5:16: “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

CONTENDING  FOR  THE  FAITH

8/6/2017

August 6, 2017                                          CONTENDING  FOR  THE  FAITH
Jude 3: “Beloved, while I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”
Living according to the faith that “was once for all delivered to the saints” does not happen automatically, but requires that we “contend earnestly for the faith.” The believers who lived in the early days of the church were constantly subject to rejection and persecution by the religious leaders of the day, and were subject to imprisonment, torture, and even being put to death by the governing authorities because of their faith. In addition to living with the physical consequences that came with professing to be a follower of Jesus, these early believers also had to be on guard against false teachers who distorted the gospel. Today, most believers who live in the western part of the world are not in danger, at the present time, of being persecuted for their faith in a physical way. However, we do live in a culture with a humanistic philosophy that rejects Jesus as being Lord and elevates the belief that each has the freedom to do what is right in his own eyes. The even greater danger and tragedy is that there are many who called themselves ministers of the gospel who’s preaching is not according to the gospel. There is ample evidence that a humanistic philosophy has had its influence in the church. For example, we often hear it proclaimed today that “we all may believe differently and interpret the scriptures differently, but we are all going to heaven.” Also, there is a strong tendency to avoid calling sin for what it is and to confront someone when their life contradicts the gospel they profess to believe. It is true that we as individuals must read the scriptures and interpret and apply the scriptures in a personal way. However, we must recognize that the gospel that was delivered to the saints was not vague and was not subject to man’s interpretation, but it was THE gospel of the Kingdom of God delivered to man, and it was specific. The gospel was not an end in itself, but was the doorway through which we might come to know God. It is our place to study the gospel, to know the message of the gospel that we might adjust our life to be in harmony with the gospel. As we read and study the gospel, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, we will continually gain new insight and understanding to the truths of the scriptures.  As you read the New Testament it is obvious that the writers were passionate about presenting the true gospel in no uncertain terms and without compromise. We must remember that the gospel was given by God, and with God there is no confusion.  (In the early days of the Church, those who put their faith in Jesus were first called ‘followers of The Way’.)  As professing believers, just as in the early church, we must contend for the faith that was delivered to us. We must seek to know the one and only true gospel and we must be quick to recognize and reject any false teaching. Also, we must recognize and root out any humanistic thinking that has any part in us. As believers, we have a rich heritage from those who gave everything that the gospel of our Lord might be preserved and passed on to us. Let us be diligent to know the truth of the gospel and to live by the truth of the gospel.
Isaiah 55:11 “So will My word be which goes from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

IMPOSSIBLE  TO  PLEASE GOD ?

8/3/2017

August 3, 2017                                    IMPOSSIBLE  TO  PLEASE  GOD ?
Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarded of those who seek Him.
Yes, it is impossible to please God-without faith. One may give to the church, may visit the sick, may teach a bible class, may be a good citizen, but yet does not please God if what he is doing does not flow out his faith in God. Faith is a very common word that is often over used, and it is likely that we have become insensitive to the practical outworking of true faith. Hebrews 11:1 in just a few words gives a clear definition of faith: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Chapter eleven of Hebrews is known as the faith chapter, and as you read this chapter, it becomes obvious that biblical faith is expressed in action. In James 2:26 we read “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” Looking again at Hebrews 11:6, we see that faith is at work when one comes to God believing that He is God. Everything hinges on whether or not one believes that God is God! Many reject or deny that God, thus revealing their total lack of faith. In this same verse we see that as one comes to God, he must believe that God rewards those who come to Him, and perhaps it is the belief that God is good and that He rewards those who come to Him is what causes one to come to God. I have often heard it said that we sit in a chair because we have faith that it will support us. However, that is not a good example of faith because we can see the chair and we can see that it is sturdy and that it will hold our weight. Faith, on the other hand, is the “assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” In Luke 7, we find the account of the Roman centurion who had a servant who was sick and near the point of death. This centurion had heard about Jesus and when Jesus came near his house, he simply asked Jesus just to ‘say the word’ so that his servant could be healed. Jesus response to those following Him was “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” Faith comes out of believing that God is God, that He is always good, and that He is all-powerful. Another important aspect of faith is that we cannot take credit for our faith, for faith is a gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8) As seen in Hebrews 11, we do not always see with our physical sight the fulfillment of what we have faith for, but even so, we continue to believe that God is God and that He is faithful. Each of us have personal things which call for us to exercise our faith in God, and God has spoken to all of us through His word and has given us numerous promises. We must examine ourselves to see if we indeed have faith in what God has said and are we looking forward to the fulfillment of every word He has spoken and every promise He has given. May we believe that God is God, and that He rewards those who seek Him.
Romans 1:17: “
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed-a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.”
