Deuteronomy 1:8 “See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the Land which the Lord swore to your fathers-“
There are several parallels we can draw from God giving physical lands to the children of Israel and God giving His followers today spiritual possessions. Just as the Israelites had to enter the promised land, we have to enter into the things God has promised us. In the New Testament, we are presented many promises that are available to all believers. Before the Israelites could enter the promised land, they had to leave the land that had been their home. For us, before we enter the abundant life God has for us, we have to die to the life we know-we have to die to ourselves. If we do not die to ourselves, we will wander in the wilderness just as they did for many years, even though they were children of God. We can know God as Savior but not experience the spiritual promised land that is ours to possess. In our sphere, in the place we live, we must take possession and occupy our place and live as God’s sons and daughters. We are to live as those who belong to God, demonstrating what life in His kingdom is like. If we do not take possession and do not occupy our sphere in life in a way that is in keeping with the ways of God, something else or someone else will. Depression, anxiety, doubt, fear, hopelessness, loneliness, anger, addictions plus many other enemies are waiting to enter and occupy our sphere. The promised land the Israelites were to enter had giants in the land; but God promised victory over the giants. We may see ‘giants’ before us; we may see our failures and sins of the past; and we may see our inabilities and shortcomings. However, we enter not because we are qualified are able to defeat the giants in our own strength, but we enter by faith in what God has promised. In the spiritual promised land that God has for us, we experience abundant life; life with purpose; fulling life; we will experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There are battles and trials in the promised land, but God has promised victory. So, let us not wander outside the promised land God has for us; but let us die to our ways and enter in to all He has for us.
Numbers 13:27 “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey!”
