October 5, 2022                                           TRUST
Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
Proverbs 3:6 “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
John 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.”
Isaiah 26:3-4 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal.”
To say we trust God is one thing; to truly trust God is something else. It is the way of man to trust in his own ingenuity, abilities, talents, and determination. One can consider himself a ‘good’ Christian, can be involved in church, live a good life, and yet when the difficulties and trials come, his trust may be shaken; it is easy to trust God in the good times. (We will consider trust and faith as being the same.) As you read about the early church, you find that many of the believers of that day experienced many trials and often were imprisoned, made an outcast, and some put to death; yet their trust and faith in God never wavered. We may not face such hostilities and persecution as the early believers, yet we do face those times when our faith and trust are put to the test. If I lose my job, if I or a loved one becomes seriously ill, if my spouse divorces me, if I face financial obligations I cannot meet, if I am passed over for promotion at my job-or whatever, do I fret and worry, or do I trust God in the difficulty? Do I trust that God is working even in the midst of the trial? If we trust in God even in the most difficult times, we experience a peace, knowing that He loves us and is watching over us. We can be totally convinced in our minds that we are trusting God; but it is in our spirit, in our innermost being, that we must trust God no matter the circumstances and no matter whether we understand the why of what we are experiencing. How do we get to this kind of trust? For me, it is a matter of surrendering all of me, my desires and preferences, my future, my family, my health, my finances, and my questions to my heavenly Father who loves me. Knowing in our spirit that God is our Father goes a long way in creating within us a faith and trust that is sure. I knew in my mind for many years that God was my Father, but one day He made it real in my spirit that He was my Father-that was a game-changer. So, yes! God is trust worthy, and He is faithful. Do not let the trials and difficulties derail our trust, but rather, let them reveal our trust in God.
1 Peter 1:7 “that the proof of your faith, being more precious than goal which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

HIS  WAY  IS  BEST

October 3, 2022                                    HIS  WAY  IS  BEST
Colossians 3:12-14 “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And beyond all these things, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
Psalm18:30 “This God-His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”
“Happy is the one who sets aside selfish ambition and personal preference for God’s will and way.”  I do not know who made this statement, but it is a good one for sure. After all said and done, we live either by our way or by God’s way. You think that by now man would have figured out that living according to his or her own dictates does not work out so well. Of course, man apart from God has only one choice, and that is to live according to his own understanding. For the one who knows God, he or she has the possibility of living life according to how he was designed by His Creator. It is very helpful to read God’s word, especially the New Testament, with the view of discovering our true identity; the instructions and the commands of scripture are pointers, or red flags revealing our true identity. For example, the scriptures tell us not to be anxious; when we live according to the Spirit and our new nature, we are not anxious. It is amazing that the Creator God has chosen to reveal to us His nature and then give us a new nature like His! When we understand this truth, reading His word and walking in His ways is not burdensome, but life-giving. Only in God do we find life and our true identity. The good news is that we do not have to strive at living in a way that pleases the Lord; we simply have to let His nature and His ways be expressed in us. (For an interesting study, look up all of the ‘let’ verses.) For example, the passage above, tells us to “let the peace of Christ rule in your heats.” We no longer have to respond out of frustration and anger, out of selfish desires; we no longer have to live in fear or feeling unloved; and we no longer have to live in continual conflict void of peace and purpose. We can put on our new self!! Putting on our new self is like putting on God and all of His amazing attributes. It’s all about us laying aside our old self and putting on the new self. There are many scriptures, including the ones above that instruct as to how we are to relate to one another. In relationships, whether family, friends, or work associates, conflicts will arise; when we as believers walk according to the ways of God, we can be instruments that God uses to resolve conflict, opening the door for His peace to rule. How awesome and what a blessing it is for believers to walk not according to the ways of man, but according to the ways of God!
Colossians 2:8 “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”
