Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
Proverbs 3:6 “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
John 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.”
Isaiah 26:3-4 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal.”
To say we trust God is one thing; to truly trust God is something else. It is the way of man to trust in his own ingenuity, abilities, talents, and determination. One can consider himself a ‘good’ Christian, can be involved in church, live a good life, and yet when the difficulties and trials come, his trust may be shaken; it is easy to trust God in the good times. (We will consider trust and faith as being the same.) As you read about the early church, you find that many of the believers of that day experienced many trials and often were imprisoned, made an outcast, and some put to death; yet their trust and faith in God never wavered. We may not face such hostilities and persecution as the early believers, yet we do face those times when our faith and trust are put to the test. If I lose my job, if I or a loved one becomes seriously ill, if my spouse divorces me, if I face financial obligations I cannot meet, if I am passed over for promotion at my job-or whatever, do I fret and worry, or do I trust God in the difficulty? Do I trust that God is working even in the midst of the trial? If we trust in God even in the most difficult times, we experience a peace, knowing that He loves us and is watching over us. We can be totally convinced in our minds that we are trusting God; but it is in our spirit, in our innermost being, that we must trust God no matter the circumstances and no matter whether we understand the why of what we are experiencing. How do we get to this kind of trust? For me, it is a matter of surrendering all of me, my desires and preferences, my future, my family, my health, my finances, and my questions to my heavenly Father who loves me. Knowing in our spirit that God is our Father goes a long way in creating within us a faith and trust that is sure. I knew in my mind for many years that God was my Father, but one day He made it real in my spirit that He was my Father-that was a game-changer. So, yes! God is trust worthy, and He is faithful. Do not let the trials and difficulties derail our trust, but rather, let them reveal our trust in God.
1 Peter 1:7 “that the proof of your faith, being more precious than goal which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
