Proverbs 3:6 “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
These are straight-forward verses-a command and a promise of what will happen if the command is obeyed. The implication is that God does not tell us every single action to take, but He does say that in whatever we do, acknowledge Him. We are not robots, but are men and women who have because of our being adopted into the family of God, have been made stewards in all of life. We work, we go shopping, we may play golf-we go about the things pertaining to life. The key is that we understand that we are called to represent Him in all we do, and to see that all of the blessings we enjoy come from Him. God wants our heart. God enjoys our trusting Him and depending on Him for everything. God is our provider whether we realize it or not-so it is right that we acknowledge Him in everything we do. In fact, without Him, we could do nothing worthwhile or anything that has lasting value; without Him, all we do is in vain. Acknowledging Him in all our ways is saying that we see Him as the provider, as the enabler, and the one who has all wisdom. God gives us specific direction in His word, and He guides us by the Spirit that lives in us, and as we follow His will and walk in His ways, He directs our path. As alluded to above, God’s word nor His Spirit within dictates every action we are to take, but in all that we do, we acknowledge Him and do what we do as unto the Lord. It is truly a matter of knowing in our inner man that God is God, that He is our Father, that He alone is our provider, that His promises are true, and that only in Him do we find life. When we begin to understand just how big and how awesome God is, and how helpless we are without Him, acknowledging Him in all we do becomes natural for us. As believers, we are sons and daughters, we have been joined to Him, and though we live on planet Earth, we are a members of the kingdom of God. How could we help but acknowledge Him in all we do.
Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”
