August 8, 2020 NEW EVERY MORNING
Lamentations 3:22-25: “The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I have hope in Him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.”
For those who seek God and wait for Him, there is one sure and steadfast truth, and that is that His mercies are new every morning. We live in a world where uncertainty is the norm, where things are unsettled and unsure and where we do not know what tomorrow holds for us. In contrast to the ways of the world, the ways of God are certain and unchangeable and when we are living according to His ways, we can know and experience confidence and peace in the midst of a turbulent world. Believers are not exempt from troubles and trials, but in the midst of difficulties, they are sustained and strengthened by the kindness and compassion of God. There is one “catch” however; the one who waits for Him and seeks Him is the one who experiences and knows first-hand the kindness and compassion of the Lord. (It is true that all people to some degree experience the kindness of God to some degree-the fact that a person is alive, that rain waters the earth, etc. is expression of the kindness of God.) Note that the loving kindnesses of God NEVER cease and that His compassion NEVER fail! We may become weary and may face discouragement, but in such times we can stop and experience His loving kindnesses and His compassion. What a wonderful Father we have. Even though God has made us new creations with new hearts and minds and put His Spirit within us, He still remembers the frailty of our physical being. In Psalms 103:14 we read: “For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.” The absolute greatest thing we can do in this life as believers is to seek Him and wait for Him, for in so doing we will find that His mercies, His loving kindnesses, and His compassions are new every morning and they never fail! When we awake each morning, let us know that God is already expressing His love for us-even before we arise from our sleep.
Psalm 139:5-10: “You hem me in behind and before, and You lay Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.”
