January 27, 2021 BE STRONG
Isaiah 12:2, 31 “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid, the Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation.” “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.”
Ephesians 6:10-11 “Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
If we are to overcome all that comes against us, we must be strong in the Lord; our human strength is not sufficient for the battles we face. We encounter many circumstances and situations that would defeat us-broken relationships, financial crisis, sickness, political unrest, corruption, being persecuted for our faith, discouragement and depression, and the world system in general. We must realize that our strength, our best effort, and our determination is not enough to stand against the schemes of our enemy. The good news is that God gives us His strength for the battle; He gives us weapons for the battle. Actually, God fights for us and He is the victor. In Proverbs 21:31 we read: “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord.” God gives us a part to play in defeating what comes against us; we must put on the armor of God and take up our weapons which include truth, righteousness, the gospel of God, faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God, and prayer. God is a God of compassion, mercy and grace, BUT He is also a warrior as seen in Exodus 15:3 “The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is His name.” He is the captain of the host as seen in Joshua chapter 5. God is our deliverer as seen in Psalms 59. Be assured that God desires that His children be the overcomers-not the overcome! We overcome and win the battles when we follow our Captains orders and use the weapons He has given. We must have Romans 8:31 as a bed-rock of our faith: “What then shall we say of these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” In our day, many, including believers, are living lives ‘of quiet desperation,’ without hope, defeated by the battles of life. There is a battle going on; it is the scheme if the devil to kill and destroy, and he will use whatever he can to achieve his goal. The devil’s attacks are aimed toward defeating the plans of God; if he defeats God’s chosen ones-you and I-then he believes he has defeated God. You and I are the battle ground, and for that reason we must be on the alert and stand against the works of Satan. No matter our age or status in life, we have the strength of God available to us for any battles we face.
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Ephesians 6:13 “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.”
