Romans 12:1-2 “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
If we embrace the truths of this passage of scripture, our lives are transformed. The first reality we see is that we all present our bodies to something or someone; the question is to what or who do we present ourselves. One might present his or her body to sports, work or career, being socially popular, pursuing knowledge, satisfying our appetite, addictions, or whatever. However, we can also present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice to God. This does not mean we must live in a monastery or on a foreign mission field or serve on a church staff. The idea is that whatever we do, we do it in a way that is pleasing to the Lord; we are to use our physical bodies as instruments of righteousness. The words we speak and the actions we take can be a ‘spiritual service of worship’ unto the Lord. We must make the choice to not be conformed to this world system which is built on satisfying self. If our minds are not ruled by our spirit, then we will move toward to the self-life. The good news is that God has given us the power and the choice to renew our minds; we chose our mindset and we choose our thoughts. Through His word, God has revealed who He is and He has reveled truths that transform our lives; He offers us life in His kingdom. The key thing for us to do is to have our thoughts based on the truths we find in the word of God and to depend on the leading of the Holy Spirit. Once we are living in the ways of God, we come to know for sure that we are in the perfect will of God-and that is the ultimate experience in life. Living according to this passage in no way robs us of life and it does not mean we cannot enjoy life; but on the contrary, it means we get to live life to the fullest-just as God intended from the start.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think on these things.”
