2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 “To this end also we pray for you always that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power; in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Our motives and how we live matters greatly. We must not forget that we have been called by God; and being called by God is no small thing. It’s not about us evaluating ourselves to see if we are worthy, but about God counting ourselves worthy of His calling. Surely, if we are a professing Cristian, we have a desire to live in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. Having the desire to live as unto the Lord is good, but desire alone misses the mark by a long shot. You have heard the quote “The road to hell is filled with good intentions;” that’s not a scripture, but it does have some truth in it. As you read in the New Covenant, it becomes crystal clear that the plan of God is for His followers to live transformed lives and that their actions reflect the nature of God. We have been called from the kingdom of this world and have been transferred to the kingdom of light. God says that we are light; and He instructs us not to hide our light, but to let it shine. James 4:17 is a sobering verse: “Whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” We must not make the mistake of doing works out of our flesh; the Holy Spirit has been given to us and He will lead us and equip us to do the works of God. This truth is found in Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Let us not be guilty of having good intentions only, but let us be about fulfilling our calling to be about the good works that God has prepared in order that He might be glorified in us. Following are a few verses that encourage us to be proactive in our walk with the Lord.
Ephesians 5:15-17 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
John 9:4 “We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work.”
Luke 12:35 “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning.”
Proverbs 14:23 “In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.”
Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in die season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Hosea 10:12 “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that He may come and reign righteousness on you.”
