2 Corinthians 3:16-18 “but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
All mankind has a veil over his heart and his eyes, is blinded, and not able to see and to know God through his own effort and understanding. God has designed it in such a way that the only way to know Him is through His Son Jesus; Jesus’s death on the cross was the sacrifice for our sins and His resurrection from the dead opened the door for us to be reconciled to God. Only when one ‘turns to the Lord’ is the veil taken away, making it possible for them to come to a true knowledge of God. This truth explains why it is that those who have not turned to the Lord do not understand the ways of God and even resist Him and those who know Him. The main point of this writing today is to better understand the process of transformation for those who have turned to the Lord. Those who have trusted Christ as Savior have been transformed, but are also still being transformed. Even though we are to be learning of Him through study and are to be maturing in Christ, this ongoing transformation process does not take place by our own effort and determination. The miracle is that as we ‘behold’ Him, as we are seeing Him for who He is, as we meditate on Him and His greatness and His love, we are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. In the transformation process, we discover that we have been made new, and we begin to live as a new creations. As new creations, we no longer have the mindset that says we must obey God in order to gain His approval; now our life-our thoughts, our motives, and our actions-become a natural reflection of the life of Christ in us. God, through the Holy Spirit, has taken up residence in us; the old things-including the old us-has passed away and new things have come. Transformation is God’s plan for us, however, we must be aware of the fact that it is possible for us to resist or not yield to this transformation process. Also, as stated above, it is also possible for us to mistakenly think that the transformation process is up to us. Let us make sure that we have turned to the Lord, that we are beholding His glory, and that it is our heart to know Him-as we do, we will be being transformed into His very image! Wow!
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Blessings.
