October 7, 2022 BEING TRANSFORMED
2 Corinthians 3:14-18 “But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
As believers, we are called to action; we are to be about obeying the scriptures out of our love for God. However, there is one thing we cannot do; we cannot transform ourselves; transformation is a work of God. The above scriptures point out a very basic truth that must not be ignored; the crucial matter is that of the heart. The heart of man is either turned to the Lord, or turned elsewhere. If the heart is not turned to the Lord, then that individual is blinded; a veil lies over their heart. This veil cannot be removed by anything or by anyone except by the Lord; and the Lord removes the veil only when one turns his heart to the Lord. The veil is not removed by doing good works, by reading the scriptures, or by doing what one considers his religious duty. Having our hearts turned to the Lord means we have a longing to know Him, and it implies that we understand that He is the only one who can fill our deepest longings. When one’s heart is not turned to the Lord, he cannot truly understand the scriptures or the ways of the Lord because the veil that blinds has not been lifted. Once our heart is turned to the Lord, He removes the veil, enabling us to see, ‘as in a mirror, the glory of the Lord.’ And here is the good news; as we behold His glory, as we gaze upon Him, and as we seek Him, we are transformed! And listen to this-we are being transformed into the same image as the Lord!! Even though we are flesh and bone, we are becoming like Him. Wow! This transformation process is on-going, it is continual. Many may have difficulty believing that we are becoming like Him; we do not become God, but we become like Him in our character and in our thought life; we reflect His glory and His life as we go about life here on planet earth. As simple as it may sound, let us make sure that our heart is indeed turned to the Lord.
