James 1:2-4 “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
I don’t know about you, but I do not like trials; so I need to hear and embrace what James is saying in this passage. It helps to know that God is bigger than anything I face, and that He uses all things for our good if our hearts are turned to Him and we are desiring to walk in His ways. Trials test our faith; and having our faith tested is a good thing. If our faith is weak or non-existent, that will be revealed when the trials come. If trials cause us to be discouraged and they draw us away from the Lord, then we need to examine our faith to see if we truly trust the Lord. The good news is that God allows trials for a purpose; and that purpose is that we gain endurance. Enduring under a trial is a testimony of the reality of our faith in God-that He is producing something good in us. To endure implies that there is a trial; it does not mean that we enjoy the trial we are experiencing. However, we can ‘consider it all joy’ because of what God is doing in us through the trial. In the world in which we live, with all of its trials and difficulties, it is an awesome thing to endure and remain steady in the faith. Many are defeated and depressed by the circumstances they are in; there is a need to see that they can rise above the circumstances and endure and not be defeated in spirit. Endurance is the end result; the result of endurance is that we ‘may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.’ Do not let the word ‘perfect’ derail you; perfect means being complete. When we endure, when we are not ‘down and out’ because of our trial, we are victorious and are living as over-comers-and that is what God is up too. When our faith in God is sure and steadfast, we truly lack nothing because we know that He supplies all we need.
James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test of he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.”
Romams 12:12 “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
