Psalm 139:3, 7-10 “You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me.” “Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,”
I recently discovered a new word that speaks volumes. Coram Deo is a Latin term “referring to something that takes place in the presence of, or before the face of God.” To live coram Deo is to live one’s entire life in the presence of God, under the authority of God, to the glory of God.” (R.C. Sproul) This means that we are always conscious of the fact that God is everywhere present-He is omnipresent. Whatever we do, and wherever we go, we are under the gaze of God. Whether we realize it or not, God is everywhere present. Some may not be comfortable with the idea that all we do is under the gaze of God. However, when we know the love of God and when we are desiring to live in a way that is pleasing to Him, it is a blessing to know that He is watching over us. In Psalms 139:3 we read “You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways.” Our life is not compartmentalized; it is not divided into what is secular and what is spiritual; we may wear different hats, but we live one life. Some have the view that when they have a time of devotion, they are spending time with God; once they finish the devotion, they go about their life. We need to be aware of the fact that we have been joined to God and that we ‘live and move and have our being in Him.’ Acts 17:28. We are never separated from His presence-even when are pursuing our own ways. We can break our fellowship with Him, but we cannot ‘x’ Him out of our lives. What a blessing to live coram Deo; to live with the conscience awareness that God, our loving Father, has His gaze fixed upon us! In those times when we find that we are beginning to drift spiritually, we need to remember that God is observing our life and He is always drawing us to Himself. We could and should have the view that we are walking with God, under His care, and never out of His presence.
Jeremiah 23:23-24 “Am I a God who is near, declares the Lord, and not a God far off? Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see Him? Declares the Lord. Do I not fill the heavens and the earth? declares the Lord.”
