Proverbs 3:5-8 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body, and refreshment to your bones.”
If you want some solid advice for life, these verses are it. There is a strong tendency in man to trust in his own understanding and reasoning. Some things just seem right and logical, and others will agree that they are right and logical, but yet they are not according to the ways of God. We may mistakenly think we know all there is to know about a certain thing we are considering, but the fact is that we cannot look one minute into the future and the circumstances in which we may find ourselves in tomorrow. I hate to say it, but we are not all that smart. On the other hand, God has all knowledge about the past, the present and the future. And the really good news is that God desires to guide and direct us, but it’s our place to trust Him with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. The key words are ‘with all your heart.’ God wants our hearts. In our hearts, we can be 100 percent certain that God always knows what is best for us and we can know without a doubt that He will make our paths straight-we will not be wondering about without clear direction. There will be times when God is leading us to do something that contradicts our own understanding or preference, but that is when we must make the choice to trust Him and follow His leading. Trusting God with all of our heart may sound like that is difficult to do or something unobtainable. However, when we come to know our true identity, that God has made us new creations with new minds, it becomes natural for us to trust Him with all of our heats and not lean on our own understanding. This is another way of saying that we have the choice to walk by the Spirit. As this verse tells us, it is a blessing to us to acknowledge Him in all we do; to walk hand in hand with Him. And, trusting Him brings healing and refreshment.
1 Corinthians 2:12 “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God,”
Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
