2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 “To this end we also pray for you always that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power; in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
I believe that the great majority of all people have some desire to do good in some way; but for those who do not have Christ dwelling in them, the good that they might do is good that is done in their own strength and it has it’s limitations. However, not so with believers. Before we can even discuss good works, we must know that what is good, comes from God, who IS good. God does not do occasional good works; He does good works because that is who He is. Because He lives in us and has made us new creations (not refurbished), we have a desire to do good. As He is, so are we. There is a warning concerning good works; we are not to take credit or become prideful for the ‘good’ works we do. It is God who puts in us a desire for good works and it is God who enables us to do good works. Before coming to know Christ as Savor, we were separated from God, void of His Spirit, and totally unable to be about the good works that are of God. But now, we can do the good works He has for us to do. Paul prayed the awesome prayer that God would ‘fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power.” Because the good works that God has for us cannot be done in the flesh, we must believe-have faith- that He gives us the power to be about good works. Again, no place for us to be prideful. Because He is love, we love; because He is forgiving, we forgive; because He gives, we give; because He is wise, we walk in the wisdom He gives us; and because He is good, we do good. Let us be about reflecting just how good our God is.
Galatians 6:10 “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
