Ephesians 6:10-12 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The battlefield is much broader than we may think and the enemy is not of flesh and bones. We are in a spiritual war and to win this war requires more than physical weaponry and human effort. Even though we are at war with an enemy we cannot see with our eyes, we can see spiritual forces working through flesh and blood. In fact, it seems that this warfare is primarily fought in the hearts and minds of human beings. The devil is a deceiver-and he is good at it.There are spiritual forces of wickedness and rulers of the darkness of this world that oppose God and His followers. The good news for us is that God has given us weapons with which we can defeat our spiritual enemies. Yes, we can be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Note; not our power, but His power. God has given us armor; the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit-the word of God, and prayer. We are also surrounded by other believers who stand with us in this war. The key is that we stand in the strenght of the Lord, refusing to yield to or fall prey to the schemes of the devil. It is important to see that our battle is not with flesh and blood, but with spiritual forces who use flesh and blood to bring about all manner of discord and strife; desiring to have people, even believers, turn from God. The enemy loves it when we see people, flesh and blood, as our enemies. So, do not fight the wrong enemy; know who you (we) are fighting. This does not mean that we ignore what people may do that is wrong; sometimes we have to deal with flesh and bones. Those who yield to the spiritual forces of wickedness very often suffer in a physical way the consequences of their action. So, after all said and done, finally, be strong in the Lord.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”
