February 21, 2020 GREATER THAN WE KNOW OR THINK
John 20:17b “I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.”
Mathew 6:61a “But when you pray go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father….”
Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them.” As believers, there are two things that tend to happen naturally that we must guard against. First, we may become so familiar with a particular scripture we are reading, we tend to have the thought of “I know what this scripture is saying,” and we go on to the next verse. The second thing we must guard against, and it is more subtle, is that reading the scripture becomes our goal. Rather, our goal should be that we are changed, impacted or encouraged as a result of reading the scriptures-not just read the scriptures then go our way. We must remember that His words ARE life and that He gave us His word that we might know Him, that we might find wisdom and instruction for life. Hebrews 4:1 tells us that “the word of God is living and powerful.” And, as we read His word, we must be conscience of the fact that His written word is super-natural, not human wisdom or logic. With that being the background, let us move on to the topic for today. If you have read many of my blogs, you will note that there is a lot written on the subject of God being our Father. It is one thing to believe in our mind one hundred percent that God is our Father-after all, all Christians believe that-it’s a cornerstone Christianity. However, when by revelation from God, we come to know in the deepest part of our being-mind, soul and spirit-that the God of creation is OUR Father, everything changes-and the change is fantastic. We are not here by accident or by chance-we are here because God fathered us! He knew us when we were but substance in our mother’s womb. Jeremiah 1:5. How awesome is that? Humanly, we can’t even begin to imagine that, but His Spirit can reveal that truth to us, and when He does, it’s absolutely life changing. When we come to know God, when we are awakened to the fact that He is our Father, we realize that there is nothing to fear or dread or to worry about. Really! God is not our Father in theory only, He is our real Father and it has practical implications. If you have not yet come to this wonderful realization in your spiritual journey, ask God to reveal to you personally that He is your Father. Take time to meditate on this profound truth, pray about it, and search the scriptures to discover what God says about Him being our Father. Knowing and relating to God as our Father is not a one-time deal; there is an initial time of coming to know Him as Father, but it is also a life time experience and we continually grow in our understanding of Him. May each of us come to the knowledge that God is OUR Father.
1 John 3:1a “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God!
Isaiah 64:8 “But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
Matthew 6:8 “Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”
