Isaiah 40:28-31: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to Him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”
Our God is so great, so awesome, so all powerful, that a lifetime is not enough time to fully comprehend just how great He is. As we deal with life, as we face battles and disappointments, we will at times become weary or tired. However, our God never becomes weary and does not get tired. Our understanding is limited whereas God understands everything—how awesome. God has the ability to give strength to those that are weary and power to those who lack might. We have all seen the seemingly endless energy that young people have, but even they become weary and tired and even the young men will stumble. When you think about it; the life of the one who does not know God, is quite fragile and quite limited. We are surrounded by reminders and examples of just how weak and limited man is. YET, there is hope-there is good news indeed- for those who wait on the Lord. Those who wait on the Lord will be given new strength-- they will mount up like eagles—they will “run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” This is a terrific promise for those who wait for the Lord. The verse above talks about “waiting” and it also talks about “running” and this may seem like a conflict. How do you wait, and run at the same time? The admonition to wait is a not a call to inactivity. We are to wait on the Lord, not wait for the circumstances to change. Waiting on the Lord has to do with trust in our Sovereign God; knowing that He rules the universe and that “He causes all things to work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose.” The scripture also says that if we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our steps. Our basic operating mode in all of life should be that God is in control; I trust Him; God loves me; I love God; I walk in fellowship with Him; and I seek Him first. With such core beliefs, I then proceed to “do all that I do as unto the Lord.” We are junior partners with God and we are called to be about His business. Daniel 11:32 declares that “the people who know their God will display strength and take action.” We do need to do what we do in God’s timing as God opens doors and closes doors and arranges opportunities for us to be used for His purpose in particular situations. God has promised to give us strength if we are weary; He has promised to increase power when we lack. If we wait on the Lord, he says that we gain new strength; we will soar like the eagle; we will run but not get tired; we will walk and not become weary! The question for us is: do we truly believe that God will do just as He promised in this verse? May we continue to learn more about what it means to wait on the Lord, and may we at this very moment acknowledge to God that we are waiting on Him.
Psalms 45:5: “Lead me in Thy truth and teach me, for Thou art the God of my salvation; for Thee I wait all the day.”
Psalms 37:39: “But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble.”
