1 John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
It is the very nature of the man that does not know God to think that he is master of his own destiny and that he is in control. Even in religious matters, he believes that he is the one who finds his way to God, thus we have man-made religions that are built upon the idea that one finds God by his own effort, by keeping certain rules and rituals, etc. The basic tenant of Christianity is that God reaches down to man, and that only through God’s grace can one come to know Him. One can debate election, that says only those who God chooses will be saved, and the free will of man, that says that anyone can be saved if they only believe in Jesus. The scriptures teach that God died for the sins of the world, but the fact is that many reject Him as Savior. Scripture also teaches that it is God who initiates salvation and that He draws those who are to be saved to Himself. With that being said, we now have understanding of who God is only because Jesus came and revealed God the Father to us. It is amazing, but we can now know God! It is indeed humbling to realize that God loved us to the point that He came in the person of Jesus Christ, not only to reveal Himself to us, but also to bear our sins on a cross that we might be saved. God is true, and He is the source of all wisdom, and He gives wisdom and understanding to those who know Him and walk in His ways. Proverbs 14:12 tells us that “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Even as believers, it is possible for us to make decisions and live in a certain way that ‘seems right to us.’ As we go about life, let us live in the awareness that the Son of God has come, and He has given us, and will give us, understanding and wisdom for every circumstance and every situation in life. We can thank God that we are not limited to our own wisdom and understanding! The greatest opportunity afforded to us is that we might know Him-the one who is all-powerful, who is wisdom, who is creator, and who is our Father! Let us know that we are in Him and let us live accordingly. 2 Peter 1:3 “seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”
