Ephesians 2:10: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Philippians 2:12b-13: “work out your salvation with fear and trembling: for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”
These are astounding, powerful, life changing truths-once we come to understand, once we believe what God has spoken. We so easily get caught up in the urgency and pressures of daily life, distracting us from the big picture. Let us be reminded that first and foremost, YOU and I, are God’s workmanship-not in theory only, but in day-to-day reality! Can we believe that we are not here by chance, but we are here as a result of being created in Christ Jesus? We are not just created by Christ Jesus, but we were created for a purpose-for good works. And, the amazing thing is that it is not just good works-but works that God has prepared for us and that we should walk in them. When we begin to see these truths, when the truth that we are His workmanship ‘sinks in’, our view and understanding of our salvation is radically transformed. It is a spiritual milestone for us when we finally come to realize that life is not all about us, but about living in such a way that brings Him pleasure. Understanding these truths and ‘buying into them’ brings a new dynamic to life, curing depression, discouragement and hopelessness. Also, when we understand that we are His workmanship-that He created us for His good pleasure-that He has prepared good works for us to walk in, it’s right and logical that we should have a sense of ‘fear and trembling’ because it is possible for us to be negligent in aligning our lives with His purposes. This type of ‘fear and trembling’ is healthy and is a safeguard for us-causing us to be alert to His calling and purpose in our daily lives. Let us know that we have the responsibility of working out our salvation. But also let us know that God has given us His Spirit to enable us to work out this great salvation. As a believer, no matter what your present circumstances may be, you are His workmanship and He has prepared good works for you to walk in-today.
Philippians 1:6: “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
