1 John 5:20: “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
We did not find God. Because of His great love and compassion, God sent His Son that we might be redeemed and transferred from darkness to light. There is no room for man’s pride or any room for him to take credit in God’s plan of salvation. We are not capable of knowing God on our own; but because of His grace, He gives us understanding that we might come to know Him who is true. This world’s system is built on lies; the dominant lie being that man does not need God, or that God does not exist. When one does not know that truth is in God alone, the motivation and the reason for life is based on self, resulting in a life that is unfulfilling and limited. When we know and when we walk in truth that comes from God, every aspect of our life is different. In His truth, our motivations, our outlook, and our desires move from being self-centered and we discover a much bigger life; a life with endless blessings and possibilities. It is indeed a red letter day when we come to know the truth that is in God. The truth is that God has a great love for His people and He wants to bless those that belong to Him and all that He does is based on His love. Some have a wrong conception or view of God; they fear God because they think that God is someone who is ready to punish when they do wrong- they see God as the “big eye in the sky” that’s ever looking for them to do wrong. Knowing that “the Son of God has come” is the great- divide of mankind-there are those who know that He has come, and there are those who do not know that He has come. He came that we might know Him and as we come to know Him, we find that He is a loving God who gives abundant, overflowing life. (Abundant life does not mean a life free of trials.) There are some who no doubt have negative connotations when they hear the admonition to keep the “commandments” of God. The truth is that out of His grace and wisdom, He has given us commandments. In first John 5:3 we read: “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” His commandments are given for our good-to lead us in the way of life. Also, His commandments actually reveal the new person that we are in Him. For example; we are commanded to love one another-and that is exactly what we do when we live according to our new identity-the new us. It is a great help to see His commandments, and scripture in general, as pointers to our new nature. The good news for us is that God wants us to know Him, and He made that possible by sending His Son who reveals the heart of ourFather.
1 John 3-6: “And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in Him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”
