November 1, 2019 KEPT IN PERFECT PEACE
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trust in You.”
2 Corinthians 10:5 “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,”
We know the importance and the power of our thought life. Proverbs 23:7 tells us “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” There have been many books written and many sermons preached about the mind being the battleground. I’m sure that all of us at times feel like our mind just goes on its own-thinking on whatever it chooses; and I’m sure we have had those occasions when we ask ourselves, “Where did that thought come from?” It is ever so easy to set certain patterns of thought. It can be a sobering reality to realize that we choose what we think about-where we focus our thoughts. As believers, we have the ability to think in harmony with God because His Spirit lives in us, enabling us to think and to dwell on things that are life-giving, that are godly and righteous. We have been made new and adopted into God’s family and now have access to a new thought life. Now, our minds become subservient to the Spirit of God living and ruling in us; now we can take dominion over out thought life. No matter what we are doing, a menial task or a grand task, we must have the over-ruling belief and view that the center of our life is Christ and it is He that we serve and it is He who directs our life-including our thought life. The truth of the scriptures and His presence in us is to be the foundation of our lives. It is amazing and awesome to be able to think the kind of thoughts that God thinks! We would be wise to filter our thoughts through Philippians 4:8 which says: “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” When our thoughts are in agreement with the ways of God, life takes on a total new meaning with unlimited possibilities. If by chance you don’t believe we can think like God thinks, Paul reminds us that ‘we have the mind of Christ’ in 1 Corinthians 2:16. The good news is that if our thought life has not been the best, we do not need to ‘beat’ ourselves up-just start right now asking God to help you rebuild your thought life and begin to discipline your thought life and take dominion and ownership of what you think about. God is into new beginnings!
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self which is being corrupted by deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Colossians 3:2-3 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
