John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.”
One might ask, “Was Jesus really serious? Or was He just trying to make someone feel better at the moment”? Obviously, Jesus was serious-He meant exactly what He said. In life, we face many trials and difficulties and we are forced to deal with the reality of living in a fallen world. Jesus, being the Son of God, knew the kingdom of God, and He came to demonstrate to flesh and blood, this kingdom. We tend to be focused on both kingdoms, whereas Jesus was focused on the kingdom of God. Jesus understands that we live in a fallen world with all of its trials, but He also knows that the kingdom of God touches and transforms every aspect of life on earth-including the trials. If we are to experience His kingdom here and now, we must have a core belief that there is a God, that He is ruling the universe, that He is love, that He sent His Son Jesus to redeem us and restore us to Himself, and that His Spirit lives in us. We also must understand that because He is in us, we have the power to be overcomers in life. Being a child of God does not mean that we will face no difficulties, but it does mean that His presence in us gives us the grace and power to overcome whatever we face. The scriptures tell us that God is a God who comforts us-so we know He understands that we do at times face difficulties and suffering. God allows adversity to come our way, but we must understand that He has a purpose in doing so. In our time on earth, we are being transformed into His image, and this transformation process includes learning how to overcome and how to live life according to His plans and purposes. As believers, we have the capacity to live super-natural lives because the spirit of God lives in us. This means that we have the power to respond to difficulties differently than those who do not know God. As God’s people, we have been given understanding and wisdom, and can view life’s situations from God’s perspective. We know and have experienced the grace of God and most importantly, we know the long term plans that God has for His people. Yes, we face trials. But because God has redeemed us and made us His own, and because we know that every promise concerning God’s people will be fulfilled, we have hope and we find comfort in the God who has compassion on us. Just because God understands and because God has revealed His plans for us, our hearts are not troubled. It may sound overly simplified, but if we believe in Jesus and the gospel He proclaimed-all is well.
2 Corinthians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.”
