Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Ephesians 4:31 “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
Colossians 3:15-16, 4:6 “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” “Let you speech always be with grace, seasoned as it were, with salt, so that you may know how you should respond to each person.”
It may be that we need to cease striving to be ‘godly’ or to be more ‘spiritual’ and simply be who we are in Christ. After all, Colossians 2:10 tells us that we are complete in Christ and the scriptures clearly teach that Christ lives in us and we live in Him. This is not to say that we do not need to study the word and grow in the grace and knowledge of God. However, the purpose of our studying God’s word should not be just to gain more knowledge, but to learn of our identity in Him, to gain in our understanding of Him, and to learn of our inheritance in Him. The word ‘let’ is found throughout the New Testament, indicating that we have within us all that we need to live and to respond in ways that please the Lord as well as bless others. It is liberating to know that we can let our words be words of grace and peace instead of words that belittle or tear down; we can let bitterness and anger be put away form u; we can let the peace of Christ rule in our life; we can let His word dwell within us; and we can let our light shine-it’s that simple. I am positive that every believer agrees with everything I have said thus for; however, there is a proviso-a stipulation. It is our tendency to try to do all of these good things in our own strength and commitment, but we soon learn that our best is not good enough. We can ‘let’ these things be who we are only when we come to a point that we know in our inner most being that God has made us new creations-that we have new hearts and new natures-and because we are new, we can ‘let.’ Let us let the life of who we are in Christ flow out of us. We are not limited to living according to the flesh; we can now walk according to the Spirit, letting Him express the presence of God in us.
Galatians 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let also walk in the Spirit.”
Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.”
