November 9, 2022 LIVING LETTERS
1 Corinthians 2:14-15, 3:2-3 “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifest through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;” “You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on the tablets of human hearts.”
Our life matters. Our life is a message to all. Our life is so much more than going to work, paying our bills, enjoying a hobby-or whatever we do out of routine. The scriptures above remind us that our life is so much greater than the natural, physical life; our life is to be a picture of the nature of God-a “fragrance of Christ.” Who we are and all we do is to reflect our God; we are to be a “sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.” In the world, we see frustration, anger, depression, violence, hopelessness, selfishness, pride-and the list goes on. The great news for us is that we do not have to live as the world lives. Just think about it; our life is a letter-not written with ink, but by the Spirit of the living God, and it is being read all the time by everyone. Wow! I ask myself-what is my letter saying to those around me. The other great news is that being a fragrance of Christ and a letter of Christ is not burdensome, but is something that takes place naturally when we know our true identity as sons and daughters of God. It’s not that we ‘should be’ letters of Christ, but that we are, and that we get to be letters of Christ. As believers, I know that we want our life to be a letter or fragrance of Christ; at the core of our being, let us examine ourselves and make sure that our hearts are turned to God, that our motives are pure, that we are keeping and honoring His word, and that we are living according to our true identity in Him.
1 Corinthians 3:5-6 “Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.”
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under a peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
