Romans 8:1-2 “There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
A feeling of condemnation robs us of the life that is available to us; feeling condemned, or guilty drains our energy and causes us to be without vision for the future. We all have reason to feel condemned and guilty because we have all done things or said things that were obviously wrong. However, the gospel has good news concerning our being guilty of wrong doing. Jesus came to forgive us of our sins-our wrong doings; He bore our sins on the cross. The sin issue was dealt with once for all. We ARE forgiven! We are free from guilt and shame! No longer do we have to live feeling condemned-no matter our past. Some have trouble forgiving themselves and that indicates that pride is an issue in accepting the fact that they sinned. Now, here is an important truth that we must not overlook. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, AND who do not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit. The sobering reality is that as a believer, one who professes to know Jesus as Savior, can choose to live according to their own dictates-that is living according to the flesh. If we yield to our flesh, we will not experience the life of Christ and we will have a sense of not being right spiritually. Some believe, and maybe rightly so, that the Holy Spirt does not convict believers of sin but of righteousness-and that could be debated. But for sure, the Holy Spirit is at work in us telling us the way in which we should walk. A lot could be said here, but the main point is that for those who are in Christ Jesus and who walk according to the Spirt, there is NO CONDEMNATION. Walking according to the Spirt means that we are being sensitive to the work of the Holy Spirit in us and we are choosing to live in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.
PS: We at times we may feel condemned by a bad decision we made even though the bad decision was not necessarily a sin-it was just a bad decision. Even in such cases, if we are walking according to the Spirit, we simply acknowledge our bad decision and continue in the life that we have in Christ. He is more than sufficient for everything pertaining to life.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Hebrews 10:22 “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from and evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
