November 13, 2019 MEDITATIONS OF THE HEART
Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”
Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellence or praiseworthy-think about such things.”
Our heart is the secret place of our life; what we think about in the privacy of our heart defines who we are. As the above verse from Proverbs tells us, what we do flows out of our heart. With this being true, it is a no-brainer to say that what we dwell on in our hearts and what we set as the desires of our heart is most crucial. The thoughts and meditations of the heart produces fruit-good fruit or bad fruit. All of us have at some time had wrong thoughts and times when our hearts have been wrong. No matter what our past ‘heart-life’ has been, we are not locked in to the past. (Someone said “Let us be more defined by our future than by our past.” Amen to that!) Because the Holy Spirit lives in us, we have the power to direct our hearts; we can take dominion in all of life-we must know that and act on that truth. We must guard our hearts. If we want our heart to be right, then we must start by choosing to think on the things of God, what He says in His word, choosing to do the things that please Him, and think on things that build up. It may sound old fashion, but we cannot neglect reading the word of God because in His word we come to know Him and learn of His plans and purposes and we find our identity in Him. Once we discover our true identity in Him, our thoughts will begin to reflect our new identity-the new person we are. The acid test that reveals our heart is to evaluate and bring to the light just what it is we really desire. Jesus addressed this issue in Mathew6:21: “For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.” Because our thoughts and the desires of our hearts are such powerful forces-for good or for bad-let us evaluate our thought life and the desires of our heart and if need be, make any needed adjustments. May each of us experience life as God designed-to the fullest.
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
