October 24, 2020 MORE THAN KNOWLEDGE
Ephesians 3:16-21 “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
Man’s chief gold is to acquire knowledge; knowledge is supreme. God gave us a mind that we might learn and gain knowledge; to learn and discover new things is a good endeavor in life. However, if as believers, we are solely dependent on knowledge-what we know in our mind only-we miss out in a big way experiencing the life of God. To live within the confines of our minds is to live a small life. When we read and meditate on what is said in the above verses, we will be amazed to say the least. The promises found in these verses are not realized or experienced because we gain a certain amount of knowledge. The first five words are key-“that He would grant to you.” We are admonished to study His word, but again, study alone is not enough; we are in need of revelation that only God can grant to us, and we need understanding and wisdom in what He says to us through His word-that is what Paul prayed for us. We could spend hours exploring the above verses, but let’s look briefly at just a few of the amazing truths we find in this passage. God is able and willing to strengthen our inner man with His power so that Christ may dwell in our hearts! Did you get that-that CHRIST MAY DWELL IN OUR HEARTS! Christ dwelling in our hearts is the biggest game-changer ever! We can be rooted and grounded in love-wow-what a difference maker to be grounded in His love. Knowing and experiencing the love of Christ SURPASSES knowledge. And can you believe that you and I “may be filled up to all the fullness of God.” Really? All the fullness of God? Yes-that is exactly what God desires for us. And, He is able and willing to do much more than what we ask or think. We may ask for something big and we may have some big thoughts-but God is greater than that! Let what God is saying in these verses whet our appetite for this prayer of Paul to become a reality for us. This prayer is not just for a select few, but is for each believer, and it pictures the life God desires for us. If this is something God ‘grants to us,’ one might then ask what we can do since He is the one who grants. Our part includes seeking and hungering to know Him, reading His word with a learner’s spirit, and praying and asking God to give us revelation of Himself and His desires for us. This life of Christ is available to you and me.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 “but just as it is written, ‘Things which eye has not seen, and ear not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him’-these are the things God has revealed to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”
