July 17, 2019 NOW IS THE TIME
Hosea 10:12 “Sow with a view to righteousness, reap in accordance with kindness; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord until He comes to rain righteousness on you.
2 Corinthians 9:10-11 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to the Lord.”
Just as we may go for an annual physical exam, it’s wise for us as believers to have a spitirual life check-up on a regular basis. We need to examine and determine what is our basic motivation in life; why do we do the things we do; are our thoughts healthy; is it our heart desire to know God more fully; and is the life we live in harmony with the gospel, and in general, how is our spiritual health. We are prone to live in a routine way, and it is ever so easy to find ourselves living on auto-pilot. If not careful, we can live our life and then one day look back over the years and find ourselves asking where did the years go and did our life make any lasting difference. The verses above are an antidote to living life in the routine, on auto-pilot. (Don’t misunderstand-all routine is not unhealthy.) There are times when we as believers need this check-up to be reminded of who we are-that we are sons and daughters of God who have been called to be about His business here on earth. And, there are times when we need to break up our fallow (uncultivated) ground and be renewed in our spirit. Just as the farmer must sow the seeds if he is to have a crop, we also must be about sowing if we are to experience the blessings that come from the Lord. There are countless ways in which we can sow, and sowing as unto the Lord is a way of life. We sow when we hear and obey what God has said in His word; when we invest time in others as the Lord leads; when we give of our time and resources; when we pray for one another--the list could go on. Let us be reminded that this present day-today-is important; it’s the choices we make throughout the day-the small things that matter; it’s how we set the tone for the day; it’s about being proactive in the things of the Lord; it’s realizing that sowing the kingdom of God is the greatest thing we can do. And the good news is that God will multiply the seeds He gives us to sow, and as we sow, righteousness will increase, and we will be enriched in every way so that we may be generous in every way!! So-say good- by to living on auto pilot-go ahead and start sowing-sow a lot of seed-you will never run out of seed. Stop asking ‘what if,’ ‘will it work,’ ‘is now the time,’ just start sowing and let God bring about the harvest. There is no place we cannot sow: we can sow at home, at work, at church, at play, at the store or coffee shop-anywhere. We get blessed as we sow, but the reason for sowing is to produce thanksgiving to the Lord-it is for His honor and His glory.
Galatians 6:8 “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
2 Corinthians 9:6 “Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
