September 14, 2022 OUR HEARTS ESTSBLISHED
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 “and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in your love for one another, and for all men, just as we do also for you; so that He may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.”
Romans 5:5 “and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
It seems that many have a heart that is unsettled, or unfulfilled. Having an unsettled heart leads either to a never ending search for what satisfies, or to despondency or depression. (Despondency is defined as ‘a state of low spirits caused by loss of hope or courage.’) There is only one cure for an unsettled heart or a heart that feels something is lacking. It is amazing, and it is a miracle, but it is only the love of God that satisfies our deepest longings. Everyone has heard that God is a God of love; but hearing about the love of God or believing in our mind that God is a God of love is not enough; only as we personally experience the love of God in our hearts are we truly satisfied. Experiencing His love changes us from the inside out. Proverbs 4:23 tells us that the issues of life flow out of our hearts. The critical point of this is that our love is not sufficient; only the love of God in us is sufficient. Romans 5:5 is an amazing verse in that it tells us that God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit! No longer are we limited to human love; we now have the love that comes from God operative in us. As alluded to above, His love fulfills and satisfies, and overflows. Paul prayed that our love for one another would abound and increase; loving others with the love of God has a way of establishing our hearts. Living in the love of God results in us living holy and godly lives where we are truly free and at total peace. I realize that what I am saying may sound like a ‘dream world’ or unattainable-but it is for us to experience. The love of God is all inclusive; even when we fail, His love enables us to confess our failure and to deal with it as He leads, then continue to walk in His love. We cannot come to know and experience the love of God by our own initiative; it is something that God reveals and makes known to us. So, if one does not know His love personally, let them pray, asking God to reveal His love. We can be assured that God wants us to know His love.
PS Note, our love for others is not to plane out, but to be abounding and increasing.
1 John 4:7-8 “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
