Colossians 1:9b-14 “we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
We could spend a life time digesting the truth and the promises of this passage of scripture. Sometimes we may read a section of the scriptures so quickly, or with the thought that we already know what it is saying, that we are not impacted with what we read. I also think that we sometimes forget that the Christian life is a super-natural life, and that we have been made new and have been given the Holy Spirit who empowers us to live life according to the word of God. Let’s take a brief look at this awesome prayer that Paul prayed for all believers. It is God’s desire that we be filled with the knowledge of His will and that we have all spiritual wisdom and understanding. We do not have to live with doubts about God and His plans for us; we can have spiritual wisdom and understanding about the ways of God. God does not leave us as orphans, but has adopted us into His family and has made us heirs, and He reveals truth to us-we are ‘not in the dark’ any longer. God fills us with knowledge, spiritual wisdom and understanding for a purpose-that we may please Him in all respects and that we would bear good fruit in every good work. We do not have to ‘flounder’ in life-not knowing our purpose or being confused about life. It is God’s plan that we be strengthened with all power according to His might. He has made us sufficient for all situations and has made us overcomers in life; we do not have to live in defeat but can walk in victory no matter the circumstances. We can be steadfast and patient in place of inconstancy and impatience, and we can have joy in place of sadness, despair, and depression. When we understand what great things God has done on our behalf, we cannot help but joyously give thanks to Him. All of these blessing are ours because He has qualified us to share in His inheritance for all believers; we did not become qualified by our own effort. We can know and walk in these wonderful truths as a way of life, yet, there will likely be times when we seem to forget or lose sight of the life God has made available to us. Because of that possibility, we need to daily be nourished by His word and be renewed in our mind that we might live according to His plans and His design; we must daily set our mind on the things of God. Living according to the scriptures is not difficult; once we discover who we are in Him and who He is in us, and we come to know His love for us personally, we will find ourselves joyously walking in His ways.
Colossians 2:6-7 “As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”
