Numbers 6:24-26: “The Lord bless you, and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace.”
God spoke to Moses and told Moses to instruct Aaron (Moses spoke person) and his sons to bless the people with this blessing. What is so amazing about this blessing is that it gives us a clear understanding of the heart that God has for His people; this is not a blessing that man came up with, it’s from the heart of God. As you reflect on this blessing, you realize that it is totally the prerogative of God to bless-we can’t earn His blessings. True, we cannot earn His blessings, but we can turn our hearts to the Lord and walk in His ways, and in so doing, we will experience His blessing-not because of what we have done, but because He reveals Himself to those who seek Him and He blesses them. Nothing can surpass the Lord blessing us and keeping us, and what could be better than God’s face shining on us? He desires to be gracious to us, and His grace is sufficient for any circumstance we face in life. Even though we are undeserving of His grace, He lavishes His grace and His love upon us-because it is His heart to do so. We face difficulties in life and there are times when we are burdened, but the Lord see’s our plight and just by seeing His countenance and His love for us, we are lifted up. And finally, the supreme blessing in life is to have the peace of God-to know that all is well with us and our heavenly Father. We live in a time of great unrest, strife and conflict throughout the world and it seems that things are out of control. However, God has not changed and He still is a God who blesses those who love Him and seek Him-the heart that He had for the children of Israel is the same heart He has for all of those who have put their faith and trust in Him. Perhaps we should write this blessing out and put it on the refrigerator or the dash of our car as a reminder of the Father’s heart for us.
James 1:17: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
