November 28, 2019 REVELATION NEEDED
Ephesians 1:17-19b “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power……”
Man, by nature, is prone to believe that it is through his learning that he becomes successful; he believes that knowledge is power. It’s true that in the world, knowledge is power. Even in Christian circles, there is a prevailing belief that if we study enough, memorize enough scripture, read the current popular best-sellers, listen to enough sermons, we will finally arrive at being ‘spiritual’. Certainly, to be able to learn, to acquire knowledge is a blessing from God; to learn of God’s creation-how and why things work as they do is a life-long pursuit. As believers, we are not just humans, we have been made new creations; we are now spiritual beings even though we live in flesh and bones in a physical world. Someone rightly said that ‘we are not a body with a spirit, but a spirit with a body.’ As spiritual beings, we have access to the wisdom of God. In fact, He lives in us and “in Him we live and have our being.” Acts 17:28. In order for us to live life as God designed, we desperately need God revealing truth to us. We know that revelation comes from God; it is His prerogative to give revelation when and how He decides. A personal testimony to illustrate this point. Since a young man, I believed with all my heart and mind that God was my Father. However, one night, much later in life, I simply looked up into a star filled sky, and I heard ever so clear in my spirit, these words: “The God that made those stars is your Father.” Wow! In a minute’s time, life changed. The first thoughts I had was what do I have to fear-or worry about-nothing! That was a case of God revealing His truth to me. I believe that the all important factor in receiving revelation from God is our heart. If it is the deepest desire of our heart to know God, and we seek Him first, He will reveal Himself to us. If we truly want to know Him, we will find ourselves reading His word because it is in His word that He reveals Himself and in His word, we learn of Him. Reading His word out of a sense of duty has little or no benefit. When our primary focus in life is to know Him, He will bring His word to life, He will give us understanding and will reveal truth to us, will direct out steps in life, and we will experience life to the fullest. Let us be learners, let us study, let us explore, let us be diligent, but let all we do be done under the banner of desiring to know God.
