Romans 6:16-19 “Do you not know that whom you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members of slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.”
We may not be consciously aware of it, but we are slaves to whomever or whatever we obey. We can ‘present’ or give ourselves to a person, materialism, careers, physical appearance , education, hobbies or whatever, and become enslaved and not even realize that anyone of these things can be the guiding force of our lives and the thing that energies us. Many are searching for that which satisfies their deepest desires and needs. We do not have to look far to see the ‘lostness’ and the frantic searching for life; the clear and simple message of the gospel shines as a light in a world that has lost its way. In the word of God we discover the keys to life abundant (that does not imply that life will always be free of trials and difficulties) and the good news is that the ways of God or not burdensome. Simply said, we can make the choice to present our selves to God; and that means we must turn from our ways before we can turn to His ways. Our heart and our desires can be to learn the ways of the Lord and hear His commands and instructions we read in the scriptures and then apply and alter our life to His ways. God is righteous, and we are told in the scriptures above to “present our members as slaves of righteousness.” It is as simple as doing what is righteous-what is like God. Of course, we cannot be about doing righteous deeds in our on strength and by our own willpower; it is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can do the things that are pleasing to God. The other really good news is that God has given us a new nature and a new heart, and when live out of the new heart and nature we have been given, we naturally want to do the things that are pleasing in His sight. As believers, we have the power of choice; we can choose to go our way, or we can choose to present our members to God as slaves of righteousness.
Matthew 7:21, 5:16 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.” “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
