1 Corinthians 2:12-13 “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual taught with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.”
Many believe that the physical world is all there is, but the scriptures make it clear that there are spiritual forces at work in the universe. 2 Corinthians 4:18 tells us that the things seen are temporal, but the things not seen are eternal. (Even believers can fall into error and find themselves focusing more on the physical or temporal rather that the spiritual and eternal.) For many, it seems preposterous to say that there are only two spiritual forces at work and that every person is under the influence of one of these forces. Until a person is born again into the kingdom of God, they live according to the spirit of the world, which is synonymous with the kingdom of Satan or the kingdom of darkness. The good news is that at salvation, one is transferred to the Kingdom of God and comes under the realm of the Spirit of God. It sounds rather simple, but it is an awesome fact that as believers, we have received the Sprit that is from God! This Spirit that is from God, the Holy Spirit, opens our eyes and gives us understanding in the things of God. One of the primary works of the Holy Spirit it to reveal the marvelous things that God has freely given to us-we have made new creations with a new nature, a new mind, and a new spirit, have been forgiven, have been made overcomers in this life, and gives us the power to live in a way that is pleasing to the Lord- the New Testament has been given to reveal our identity in Christ-check it out! Let us not lose sight of the fact that God has given us a wonderful gift-the gift of the Holy Spirit who reveals to us all that God has done on our behalf.
John 16:13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”
