January 22, 2020 THE INHERITANCE YET TO COME
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.”
1 Peter 1:4-5 “to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Romans 8:23 “And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.”
If we simply view salvation as a ticket to heaven, we have a very limited and narrow view of salvation. Also, if we think that our redemption is now complete, we are short-sighted. Don’t misunderstand; our salvation is secure and if we trust Jesus as Savoir, we will spend eternity with Him in heaven. The point in this blog is that our salvation is much bigger, greater, and broader than we might realize. We do not yet experience the full impact of our salvation. We have been given the Holy Spirit as a pledge, or you might say, a down payment, for what is yet to come. The problem with a narrow view of salvation is that it robs us of the joy of anticipating and looking forward to our full adoption; if we think that the acceptance of Jesus as Savior is all there is to it, we miss out on the wonder and the anxious awaiting of what is yet to come. If we know that our salvation is not yet complete, we understand why Paul said in Romans 8:23 that “we groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.” We cannot fully understand the full impact of what it will be like when He makes our redemption complete-when we see Him, when He welcomes us, when even our bodies are made new. Knowing what is yet to come certainly should motivate us to live today in such a way that honors Him and pleases Him. God has great plans for us-beyond our comprehension. By His grace He has redeemed us and we belong to Him; He is looking forward to the day when at the right time, we will be united with Him for all eternity-our salvation will be complete. Keep this truth on the front burner!
Ephesians 1:18 “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
Revelation 22:12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”
1 John 2:28 “And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.”
1 Corinthians 15:42-44 “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
