September 20, 2019 THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
It is a fantastic miracle that we can hold in our hands the written word of God! The God who created the universe, the God who is all-knowing and all-powerful, and all-loving, gave us His word in written form. Even though His written word is an awesome miracle, we may find ourselves taking His word for granted and lose the grandeur of His word. God reveals Himself in and through His word and He also reveals who we are and exposes our need for Him. God’s word is absolute truth. Apart from believing His word, man cannot experience life as God the Creator designed; man is incomplete without the word of God. As believers, let us guard against becoming complacent when it comes to reading and studying His word. If by chance we do not have a desire to read His word or if we find we are too busy to read His word, that is a sure sign that we indeed need to read and study His word. In His word we find wisdom, knowledge, hope, direction, truth, purpose, understanding, grace, and confidence. Let us not be guilty of saying we believe His word and yet not obey His word. His word is not just information-it is transformational. His word changes us and it is the blueprint for being transformed into His image. Of course, His word cannot be believed and lived out apart from the Holy Spirit who enables us to understand His word. Let us turn our hearts and our minds to His word-it is ‘alive and powerful’ and it is our salvation for this life and the life to come.
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Matthew 4:4 “….it is written, man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
