2 Corinthians 3: 16-16 “But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts; but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 4:5-6 “Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forget her, and she will guard you; love her, and she will watch over you.”
It is amazing how one can be blinded and yet not know that they are blinded. The reality is that all people are blinded to the truth until the veil that blinds is removed by God. No matter how well-read one may be or how intellectual one may be, they are blinded if they have not turned to the Lord; only by turning to the Lord is the veil taken away. We live in a day when the pursuit of knowledge is all important; the ones who have the highest degrees are honored and respected the most. (I’m not saying education is useless or a bad thing-we need education.) We must not overlook the basic, unchangeable fact that all truth and all wisdom come from God; and God has chosen to reveal truth and wisdom to those who love Him and who seek Him first. It is ever so important for us who belong to God, not to lean on our own understanding. We have many opportunities before us, many options, and many possibilities; certainly we need wisdom from God as to what we do or do not do, and to know how we are to respond to the circumstances surrounding us. We do not know what the next moment holds-but God does. The good news is that we are not left alone to figure out the path we should take; God invites us to trust Him with all of our hearts, not to lean on our own understanding, and to acknowledge Him in all our ways, knowing that He will make our paths straight. We need wisdom if we are to avoid unnecessary pitfalls and to know the way in which we should walk. Wisdom is not automatic, but God gives it to us when we ask and when in our heart we trust in Him. Let us live life with the veil removed-knowing that it is our Father God who removes the veil as we turn to Him. We no longer have to live in doubt and we are no longer limited to our minds to determine which way to go. If we have turned to the Lord and our trust is in Him alone, He will direct our steps. Yes, God gave us a mind, but our minds are to be under the influence and direction of the Spirit of God.
Psalm 119:130 “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”
Ephesians 4:18 “They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, dune to their hardness of heart.”
