July 6, 2019 THE WORD
2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.
Matthew 4:4 “But He answered and said, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
Psalm 19:7 “The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
It’s our tendency to take something for granted when we have been exposed to it for a long time and have become familiar with it. It is good for us to remind ourselves that the bible is not just a book; it is a book, but unlike any other book ever written, every word is inspired by God. That in itself is a miracle. Obviously, God wanted us to have a written word, or letter from Him that we might know Him and that we might find the path to life. In Gods’ word, we learn the way of salvation; we learn of the nature of God; we come to know His purposes and His plans, including His purposes for us. Another fact that sets the bible apart from all other books is that it takes the inspiration of the Holy Spirt for us to comprehend the true message of the scriptures. John 14:26 tells us: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” It is good to listen to teachers who have an accurate understanding of the word, but it is our responsibility to do as 2 Timothy 2:15 instructs: “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Let us keep a deep appreciation for the word of God and let it be the sure foundation of our life.
Matthew 4:4 “But Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.”
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
