Colossians 1:13-14: “For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
When we think about living in a ‘kingdom,’ our thoughts may go back to a time when kings, or a particular country, ruled a given territory. However, in our day, and in all of history, there have been only two kingdoms-the kingdom of darkness (the world) and the kingdom of God. Satan, who was known as Lucifer in heaven, rebelled against God and was cast out of heaven and the presence of God. (This rebellion did not catch God by surprise as He always knew it would happen, and He had a plan as to how He would use Satan to further His purposes!) It was not an accident that Satan was cast out to planet earth, the same place that God would in His timing create man. Since the rebellion and the expulsion of Satan from heaven, there have been two kingdoms on earth. Adam and Eve had not been on the scene very long before they encountered the kingdom of darkness when Satan enticed them to disobey God by eating of the forbidden fruit, and when they yielded to Satan’s tactics, sin entered the heart of man and since Adam and Eve, all are born with a sin nature—you know the story. Even though Satan, the father of all evil, masquerades as an angel of light as seen in 2 Corinthians 11:14, his kingdom is one of total spiritual darkness and is still in rebellion against God. All who do not know God as their Savior, are part of the kingdom of darkness, because only in God’s kingdom is there light. Note that one can be living in the kingdom of darkness and still look like a ‘pretty nice fellow.’ The essence of living in darkness is living according to one’s own dictate, with self in control. The essence of living in the kingdom of God is having died to self and living by the life if Christ who is present in each believer. Those who are in the Kingdom of God have been made new creations with new hearts, new minds and new spirits. By the working of God, believers have been given the greatest transfer one could experience-transferred from darkness to the kingdom of God! Now, we must saturate ourselves with the good news of this kingdom of God and choose to walk in the light. “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” How blessed we are to live in the kingdom of light-the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:8: “For you once were in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”
1 Peter 2:9: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
